About Me

Hi Friends and Fam!,

I am so excited to invite you all into what God has put on my heart. For my first blog, I just wanted to share a little bit about how I came about the World Race and what this whole process has meant to me.

About Me!

I am 20 years old and currently in my sophomore year at the University of Nebraska-Omaha! I am a pre-social work major and am apart of a student organization called Maverick Productions. In MavPro, I help plan and run student events at UNO for students to enjoy. After school, I plan on working at a non-profit that aids in the end of human trafficking. Whether the non-profit is in the United States or across the world, I am ready to walk through whatever door God has opened for me. In addition to school, I have stayed pretty involved in my local church (Christ Community Church) and college ministry (8:08). I am on leadership at 8:08 and I serve in the middle school ministry at CCC. I spend quite a lot of time getting poured into so I can pour into others! One last mention-worthy thing I am apart of is my job! I became a barista at Scooters at the beginning of this school year and I absolutely love it!

How the Race came about.

We are going to flashback to fall of 2019 real quick. I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw a girl that I followed got accepted to go on the race. I was curious as to what it was and did a quick Google search. “Looks fun, but I could never” I said quickly to myself before I could listen to God. I continued on with my freshman year, and then my sophomore year. Watching said girl on Instagram fundraise, go to training camp, and soon launch. “Looks so fun, maybe I could?” I said to myself. Fast forward to this November. As I wrapped up my first semester as a sophomore, things were tough. I was not sure why, but I felt so incapable of continuing my education. I have never been a great student, nor enjoyed school, but this was a deeper hurt than ever before. Looking into winter break, I was ready for rest and alone time. Instead, I received intentionality from my friends through the Lord. My college ministry was doing a winter conference. I did not want to go, I thought it was dumb to have it virtually. I ended up going. At my pod home, I was surrounded with some great friends from 8:08 as well as my pastor, Tom, and a resident at 8:08, Travis. Telling Travis about my curiosity for the race was the first time I had spoken about it with anyone. As a resident should, Travis encouraged me to lean into what God was speaking to me about the race. But Travis’ intentionality and confidence in his words really stung me and lead me to resting in God and take prayer seriously to determine whether the race was right for me. Instead of looking for answers from my feelings, I looked for answers in the Word and in prayer. I took one more look on the World Race website and said “Looks fulfilling, and I trust the Holy Spirit to guide me through this.”. It was that moment that I submitted my application. Ever since my acceptance, an overwhelming peace from God has come to me. I have prayed for surprises and surprises have come.

I am expectant on more deliverances from God through the race. Not just for me, but for my squad, the ministries we will serve at, and my family and friends back home. Let us lean into this with faith and prayer!!!
